Brussels learns about the legend of the first decorated Christmas tree

On 8th January, the exhibition - "The Story of Riga's Christmas Tree" - which tells of the legend about the first ever decorated Christmas tree and the festival inspired by it, was unveiled in the European Parliament building, in Brussels. It is a retrospective photograph exhibition, featuring a selection of the best pieces designed and created by Latvia's artists and designers over nine years of the landscape object festival "The way through the Christmas trees".

The landscape objects of the festival “The way through the Christmas trees” may be viewed until 13th January, but visitor voting on www.eglufestivals.lv/en so far indicates that there are already several favourites taking the lead as this year’s favourite object. Votes may be cast until the last day of the festival.

Work on the landscape object “Decorative line” began in spring, when preparing an entry for the selection contest for “The way through the Christmas trees”. The author of the idea is artist and teacher Ineta Greiza.

This year’s landscape object festival “The way through the Christmas trees” has 39 art objects on display, which are the result of artists from the creative society and students of the Art Academy of Latvia’s Creative workshop.

From Friday, 7th December, inhabitants of Riga and visitors to the city are invited to view the 39 landscape objects of the festival, “The way through the Christmas trees” – Christmas trees that will surprise onlookers with their unusual shapes, interesting artistic interpretations and variety of materials used to create the objects.

Two objects from among the viewers’ favourites from the landscape object festival “The way through the Christmas trees” in 2014 and 2016, namely, “Tales of Schwarzhof manor house” and “Winter landscape” may be seen in Pardaugava.

The Christmas tree in Town Hall Square will be lit and the festival „The way through the Christmas trees” announced

On Wednesday, 6th December, at 16.00 hours, Deputy Mayor Andris Ameriks and Mr Edmunds Krēsle, Technical Director of Riga municipal council’s agency “Rīgas gaisma” [Rīga’s light] will switch on the Christmas tree “Gold lantern”, that is also one of the 39 objects of the festival “The way through the Christmas trees”.
A festival invites. Each time as though it was the first time

Over the nine years since it first began, the landscape object festival “The way through the Christmas trees” has become a familiar symbol of Riga. Every year, this month sparkles to brighten even the darkest of the seasons, and invites onlookers to think creatively and appreciate the urban environment by looking at it from a different perspective over the holiday season.
